The Blue Mosque of Turkey

Turkey: between Europe and Asia

The Blue Mosque of Turkey

Turkey frequently appears in the media. We all remember when the country wanted to be part of the European Union. A lot of ink has been spilled over this wish and it opened a lot of debate over the world. However, we should not forget that above all, Turkey is home to over 10,000 years of history. This means a lot of tourism opportunities in Turkey. Let’s take a brief overview of them.

Traces of the great

In either the 97% of Asian territory or the 3% European, Turkey welcomed the greatest civilisations. Greeks, Armenians, Persians, Romans and Ottomans, they all fought to hold sway over this holy land, which forged their identity and left many traces behind.  Turkey was also the birthplace of many advances. Here was concluded the first treaty of peace and where women first won the right to vote in 1934 and the country still hosts some of the best architectural specimens of all time. That includes two of the Seven Wonders of the World: the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus in Bodrum and the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus.

Where myths come true

Turkey will allow you to immerse yourself in the most famous mythological tales : the legend of King Midas who changed everything he touched into gold, or the myth of the Trojan horse which allowed the Greeks to conquer the city, not to mention the Ararat volcano where Noah’s Ark touched ground after the flood.

Byzantium, Constantinople, Istanbul

A trip in Turkey is not really a trip in Turkey without the visit of the only city in the world located over two continents and separated by the Bosphorus Strait. Known under legendary names full of mystery and respect, the place was Byzantium, then Constantinople before becoming Istanbul.  Thanks to the city, you will discover incredible buildings representing the major religions of the world such as the Blue Mosque and its six minarets, where many Muslims started their pilgrimages to Mecca over the years. Hagia Sophia is still seen as the eighth Wonder of the World and contains the shadow of a mosaic work in gold 16,000m² big.
