The Lake District – an ideal weekend getaway

The beginning of the year is widely regarded as the most stressful and depressing time of the year after all the festivities, compounded by the sadness of returning to work and the harsh reality of the 9-5 life. Getting away for a little weekend break can be the recharge you need to start cracking on and making this new year the best one yet!

Why the Lake District?

The Lake District is just a few hours drive at most, from most major UK cities, and there’s so much to do, see and experience whilst you’re there.

One of the most popular towns in the district is Keswick, a quaint market town that’s filled with bustling life and quirky stores, so we think that’s the perfect place to call home for your weekend away! The town is idyllically located on Derwentwater, so you have one of the most picturesque lakes in the region on your doorstep; what more could you ask for?

What To Do in the Lakes?

Whilst you’re in Keswick, there’s a variety of things to keep you occupied, or relaxed, depending on what you’re looking to get out of your weekend away. If you want to relax, you can head to a local spa, such as Lake District Spa at Lodore Falls, or perhaps take a hike up some of the local fells which will show you the district from an entirely new vantage point. Morning walks around the lake are also a brilliant way to unwind and get some much needed fresh air, so be sure to pack your comfortable footwear!

For those looking for a busier holiday, there’s plenty to do and see – watersports are a popular pastime in the area thanks to the large bodies of water that are naturally available, but there are lots of attractions for foodies too. The Lakes Distillery is somewhat of a pilgrimage for those among us who enjoy fine spirits from local independent makers – expect to find all of your favourite tipples along the tour, with a few tasters thrown in for good measure.

When it comes to food, you have to check out the Brossen Steakhouse – it’s right on the main square and serves some of the finest cuts of meat, cooked to perfection.

Where To Stay

Keswick has an abundance of options when it comes to accommodation, so whether it’s a simple B&B or something a little fancier that you’re looking for, you’ll easily find a place to stay that suits you down to a tee. Lake District Hotels offer versatile options spanning the entire accommodation spectrum – their Inn On The Square hotel is located in the centre of Keswick, whilst their other locations all have their own unique charm that makes them a wonderful place to stay throughout your break.

The Lake District is a great destination for a quick getaway to escape city life for a couple of days and leave yourself refreshed and prepared, so take a look at what’s available and see if you can grab a little R&R for a little while there this winter.
