Commonly known as The Lakes, The Lake District is an area of National Parks in the north west of England. Its mountainous regions and picturesque lakes make it a popular holiday destination for those who want to enjoy a little bit of nature’s tranquillity. Since the 1960’s the Lake District National Park has seen a boom in tourism, from those wanting to visit local points of interest, such as areas of inspiration for children’s author Beatrix Potter, to visitors looking to tackle it’s towering peaks. Around twelve million people holiday in the Lake District every year, coming from all over the world.

It’s little wonder really, that this beautiful landscape attracts so many visitors year upon year, it’s a diverse and wonderful place, with so many things to see and do. Whilst there are many sports businesses set up to serve the Lake District, walking and rambling remain ever popular – guests who explore the woodland on foot won’t be disappointed with the beautiful scenery. There are also routes for group sightseeing tours and scenic driving.

As well as the many outdoor activities the Lake District has to offer, it’s also a perfect location for families on a camping holiday, kids won’t be bored as they discover the great outdoors. If the weather puts a dampener on open-air pursuits, there are lots of alternative attractions to look into.

The area has strong links with artists and writers, and the summer theatre performances are not to be missed, particularly the ones on show at the famous Century Theatre, which is a real pull for tourists. In addition to these cultural traditions, the Lake District plays host to festivals of all kinds throughout the year, such as film, music, literature, mountaineering, and creative arts.
